The Makelekos Ladies are making short work plastering our Azolla fish pond with a clay and cow dung mix to prevent water loss and provide nutrition for the Azolla and Red Nile Tilapia hatchlings.
With skills like these we know the Ladies are going to do a fine job plastering our first accomodation hut to an exceptionally high finish!
A day later and the Makelekos All-Stars are carrying bucketfuls of water by hand from the paddies to fill Hope Sakuma's first azolla fish pond before leaving the pond overnight to make sure the new plaster - expertly applied by the Ladies - retains the water for the Azolla and Red Nile Tilapia, also known as Saint Peter's fish because of how quickly it can feed multitudes!
A wry smile from Abu as Hope's first Azolla fish pond looks to be holding it's water well and project chief, Amabest transfers some Azolla from our paddies ready for the Red Nile Tilapia from Madam Rugiatu's fish farm in Tonkolili.
Then Amabest adds a handful's mix of Super Phosphate 0-48-0 and bone meal to help the Azolla settle in before the fish and ducks transfer.
