SLATHERING HOPE SAKUMAS' HIVES

The season soon arrives to place Hope Sakuma's traditional hives and call the wild bees, so Ibrahim and team carefully mix cow dung from our Fulanese cousins with just a little clay and water to exactly the right consistency before skillfully slathering each hand-woven hive with the waterproof mix and leaving to dry in the Sanda sun.

These expert Limba beekeepers, who've harvested honey for generations from our rainforest bees, now harvested sustainably without using traditional smoke that can kill these essential pollinators.
