EDUCATION MATTERS: EMPOWERING MABRON COMMUNITY

Mama Mayila takes her new knees on their second outing visiting Springwater Academy, the heart of the Mabron community, to witness the dedicated teachers in action, enjoy some time with the pupils and find out first-hand the schools' challenges and needs.

Regular readers of long-standing may recall way back in 2016 and 2017 Mama Mayila visiting Mabron community in the aftermath of Ebola bringing food, reuniting orphaned children with family and donating classroom furniture to the local school still being used today!

Mama Mayila meets with Miss Saffi, the headmistress, and all the teaching staff to find out first-hand the schools needs and help chart a course with Hope for a sustainable future.

Mama Mayila even makes time to help out the Cook with the school lunch being sure to find out from all the Springwater team how they see things.

Delivering nine classes of nursery and primary education to more than 250 pupils the school needs extra classrooms an two more teachers to extend the school day and a well to provide water but earlier this year the school ran into problems. The charity supporting them had collapsed, the dedicated teachers - who only received 400 Leones stipends - went unpaid for six months and the school was facing a bleak future and potential closure. Mama Mayla's been working hard to secure this vital community assets' future and meeting with the teaching team to find out first-hand the schools needs and help the school to chart a course with Hope for a financially sustainable future.
