Mama Mayila leads the Hope team and esteemed guests down the steep steps descending into Moa Wharf for yesterday's event for vulnerable children, greeting ghetto boys before descending further into this resilient slum community.

 

Joining Mama Mayila, Foday sporting a very apposite t-shirt and his Helpful Hands team and Pastor John Osas Omoregie, leading the first West African mission of Belgiums' Christ's Apostolic Church of God, coming to meet with the children in our programmes and to witness their living conditions before breaking bread with them.

Although homes are little changed since the height of the Ebola crisis when the wharf was quarantined, the community manage to keep alleyways, open spaces and gutters impressively clean and everyone's benefiting from a smart new court barre community centre.

 

But the waterfront bears a seemingly permenant scar of plastic pollution, dirty washed down from Freetown and washed up from the ocean simply too much plastic for this small impoverished community to tackle by themselves
