So, after 6 week travels our VW minivan and Mitsubishi 4x4 are on the final leg of their journey turning off the Highway and coping well on the road that's really a track to Hamilton and Mama Mayila's Cradle and some unsuspecting kids...
One year and seven months in the making we're happy to welcome (but not as happy as the kids) not only a minivan but also a 4x4 to the centre. From their mid-January purchase in the Netherlands, both vehicles delivered 8 weeks later registered in the name of Hope 4 Ebola Orphans and collected by Uncle Williams and Uncle Junior.
Grateful thanks to everyone who shared fundraiser posts from way back when and heartfelt thanks to those who gave to make it possible - Aunty Mary and Uncle Josh, Aunty Shauna and Uncle Jeff, Uncle TC, Maryanne and John Townsend, Uncle Danko, Aunty Nichole and Uncle Joe, Aunty Amanda, Aunty Fatmata and the Richest Minds Group, Association of Sierra leone Organizations in Texas (ASLOT), Aunty Michaela and Uncle Thomas, Uncle TC again, Uncle Stephen, Uncle Sema, Aunty Kel and Uncle Jode, Aunty Val and Uncle Ken, Uncle Cornelius and the Sunday Foundation - each and every one winning a ticket to ride when next or first visiting Salone.
So, it took a while. From August 1st 2017 in fact when our fundraiser was interrupted by the urgency of the mudslide but the kids perseverance won out and the kids were finally able to find not one but two vehicles: a VW with proper seats and seatbelts, perfect for the school run and some exciting educational outings and adventurous adventures and as you can see, enough clearance to cope with the Hamilton track and a Mitsubishi 4 x 4 for Hope Sakuma and the occasional adventurer or environmental reporter.
