EMPOWERING RURAL WOMEN

So, our first AGM of Hope Sakuma, Manays, Sanda Magbolonto Chiefdom is well underway and empowering words from Mama Mayila as she explains how the project is for everyone, the women, the youth and how proud she is to see a majority of women in the co-op.

To much applause, Mama Mayila says women have always been in the picture but now they are taking the lead and have an equal voice in Hope Sakuma.

Wouldn't you know it? The meeting gets interupted, gloriously interupted, by the many Manays school children coming to sing their thanks and at the very, very top of their young lungs. They enjoyed it so much they circled round and had a second go!

Mama Mayila explains how a unity of purpose can bring us all together and receives much applause when she says how important it is to do everything properly, the offical government way, by registering and accounting for everything properly.

During a discussion about setting up an executive board to oversee the schedule of works for the co-op, Mo explains how we hope to host a researcher from the Netherlands who wants to see how our self-governing co-op develops and enforces it's rules and Andrew re-inforces the importance of everyone doing the work they comit to.

And everyone happily rounds off the meeting by tucking in to a fantastic shared soup and rice!
