NOTING NERICA NEWS!

Some really neat news from Sheku, Hope Sakuma's first nerica rice harvest is due to start next week just 3 short months from planting!

Our 14 inland valley swamp teams have done a great job and Mohammed from JICA's (Japanese international cooperation agency) is on-hand noting progress and advising on the best time for each village to harvest according to the planting calendar devised with villages harvesting sequentially thru June.when our Buttercup rice - the farmers favourite is ready, 4 months on from planting.

Here you can see the inland valley swamps of Masine, Magbolontor, Komneh and Forekaria with Hassan, Sheku and Mohammed from JICA then travelling to Woliya, Masilah and RoGbin.

Close-ups at Mamatay of the nerica rice ready to harvest next week and Buttercup coming along nicely for June.

With 14 villages intensifying rice production both nutrition and food security will be improved for Sanda Magbolontor and Hope Sauma will have the seed to develop even more inland valley swamps capable of producing three harvests a year! What's not to like?
