HOPE SAKUMA - WHERE WE'RE AT!

Sheku's off to deliver fertilizer to Madineh - just one of 15 teams developing inland valley swamp sites growing nerica rice - so the basal dressing can be applied at exactly the right time as the seedlings are transplanted and we must confess those seedlings are looking lush!

Sheku's had a busy couple of weeks delivering fertilizer and making sure farmers are following their training with JICA.

Sheku's also been accompanying COOPI to map suitable sites for more than 10,000 cashews saplings to be planted in partnership in Sanda Magbolontor this year! As well as seeding cassava farms in the same key locations in the Chiefdom, Hope Sakuma plans to utilize the skills of our honey FBO up at Makatay to increase the number of forest hives to aid pollination of the cashew as they mature to fruit in 3 years time.

Both cassava and cashew are drought-resistant crops and will provide nutritious alternatives to Salone staples, rice and groundnut, at times of climate stress, helping these farming communities become more resilient as they adapt to climate change.
