MEANWHILE IN MANAYS...ONE WORD

Kicking off this trip in Manays, our very first village, Mama Mayila's explaining Hope Sakuma's 2019 sustainable farm plan to help each village become an independent farmers association, each with a majority of women members with an equal voice. After two years sensitization Mama Mayila believes the Ladies (and gentlemen) of Hope Sakuma are ready to take the reigns of their own FBO's with skills and governance training sessions planned for mid-year, making sure the right people are in the right roles doing the right thing.

Working with these farmers for two years also helps Mama Mayila identify strengths and challenges in each village team. Mama Mayila knows having active and engaged self-governing associations - setting their own work rules for their own community, inputting into the farm plan for 24 villages and sharing equal rewards for equal work - is an essential foundation for and a big step on our way to, becoming a producer marketing co-op.

After the meetings the food and membership is verified by Osman, Hassan, Sheku and Zainab, checking voter ID cards against each villages register to make sure there's no double counting and absolutely no ghosts!
