CELEBRATING AFRICAN CHILD DAY IN SIERRA LEONE!

The kids at Mama Mayila's Cradle held a fashion show yesterday to celebrate Day of the African Child and our first contestants are Misses Katie, Miss Dee.

Their theme Leave No-one Behind - well chosen when you think how far some of these smiling cherubs have come

And our second round of contestants Miss Sierra, Miss Sophie and little miss Destiny (with Miss Dee putting in another appearance) this time the girls are modeling outfits by Uncle Mo and fabrics kindly donated by Hardwicks Textiles of London thank you Mr Hardwick!

LEAVE NO-ONE BEHIND Looking at these beautiful kids in their beautiful outfits bearing such beautiful smiles it's hard to credit the hardships they've suffered whether having to sell water in the streets rather than go to school, being beaten if not enough was sold, constantly at risk of sexual exploitation, single mums breaking stones and unable to support their child, these children overcome their disadvantages every day.

And we wish we could do more - every day we try to do more - there are so many children in Sierra Leone who are not so fortunate, who are left behind, whose daily reality, including this Day of the African Child, is the reality our kids are lucky enough have escaped.
