A single donation of €40 from Stephen Herschell fed over 170 vulnerable children during an Education 4 Children Tour event last week in Mabrown, Newton Community, Sierra Leone. Hope 4 Ebola Orphans organized the special meal for the children with the local community and with rice bought with Steve’s donation.
A Big Thank You
Speaking at the event, the Founder of Hope 4 Ebola Orphans Madam Mayilla Yansaneh added: “I thank Stephen for his generosity in helping this community from all the way over in the UK – we want to share any good fortune we have with other communities in Sierra Leone. My thanks also to the guardians and caregivers for taking care of the children, especially those children who have lost both parents’’
Kind Gesture
The Head man of the Village, Obai Kamara expressed his gratitude to the Dream Team and said: “Thank you Mr. Steve for your kind gesture and I appeal to other philanthropists to support Hope so they can continue to help us and other communities like us.”
Help Still Needed
In an interview with this press, John D. Sankoh, one of the Volunteer teachers at the School said: “Our children really need your help. We need a permanent building, we need school equipment and we need more teachers to keep our school running effectively and efficiently.”
The Director, Office of Diaspora Affairs, Kallay Musa Conteh, praised Hope and all other Diaspora led organizations that are contributing significantly to the country’s development. “It is good to see diaspora organizations coming in partnership to help communities realize their potential. Together we are stronger and can do more”
One of the practical outcomes of the event was confirmed by Hope 4 Ebola Orphans volunteer worker Osman Kamara who explained: “We will now work with care-givers and guardians to undertake an effective investigation exercise to identify the children’s history and vulnerability to ensure the most vulnerable are properly registered with the Ministry of Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs.”
