Makelekos All-Stars Chief, Mohammed Lamin's collecting more Azolla to mulch Hope Sakuma's melons and giving us the chance to see ratooned rice from our first paddy, stubble cut to 20 cm and now already sprouting vigourous green growth.
As well as helping our young veg keep their roots moist and cool we're hoping the Azolla can repeat it's magic and help our ratooned rice deliver a fair second crop!
We want to show subsitence farmers how a small plot with two IVS rice paddys, vegetable plots, fertilzier pits, some fish and ducks - farmed intensively but sustainably can, with Azolla's help, directly benefit their family, community and environment improving nutrition, food security and livelihoods.
